For only the second time in its 47 year history, the St. Louis Moonlight Ramble® is allowing the public to design the logo for the 2010 Moonlight Ramble® glow-in-the-dark T-shirt.  These famous shirts are highly collectible and have been spotted all around the world over the last four decades.  Here is your chance to be immortalized as a T-shirt legend!

Rules
Designs must be original works by the artist.  By submitting a design, the artist attests to the design’s originality and the artist’s rights to all elements of it, and that it does not contain any previously copyrighted or trademarked material (other than Moonlight Ramble® and Ride the Night™).

By submitting a design, the artist transfers all rights to the design and any derivative works to the Gateway Council of Hostelling International-USA.

No compensation for the winning design will be given, except for two (2) VIP passes to the 2010 Saint Louis Moonlight Ramble®, two 2010 Moonlight Ramble® tickets to ride and two of the 2010 glow-in-the-dark t-shirts, the artist and/or the artist’s employer name/logo on the back of the tee shirt and artist credit on www.moonlightramble.org.

An artist must be 18 years of age to submit a design.

An artist may submit no more than two (2) designs.  Each submission must be sent separately.

Submissions must be sent via email to the email address clerk@moonlightramble.org.  The design must be sent as an attachment fitting the file specifications below.  The body of the email must contain the following information:

•    Name of artist;
•    Age of artist;
•    Full mailing address;
•    Daytime telephone number;
•    Evening telephone number; and
•    Email address.

Submissions will be accepted through 5:00pm CST on Friday, July 9, 2010.

Judging
Three finalists will be selected by a panel comprising event volunteers, Gateway Council staff, and design industry professionals and the winner being decided by an online vote on the Moonlight Ramble® Facebook page.

The winning artist will be notified by July 23, 2010.

Design Requirements
The logo will be rendered on T-shirts at approximately 12” x 12”.  The design should be legible and attractive at that size.
The design must use no more than six (6) colors, including one color representing the glow-in-the-dark ink to be applied during silk-screening. If exact pantone colors are in the best interest of the design, please list those on the side of the artwork and/or include in the email submission.

The design must include representation of the following elements:
•    The full moon
•    The Saint Louis region
•    Bicycles, bicyclists, or bicycling
•    The 47th annual event

In addition, the design must include the following wording:
•    Moonlight Ramble®
•    Ride the Night™
•    Saturday Night, August 21, 2010
•    Forest Park
•    www.moonlightramble.org

File Specifications
Designs should be created in a professional design program such as Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.  Initial submissions are to be submitted as a .pdf, .jpg, or .gif and be smaller than 5 MB in size.  If selected as a semi-finalist, the applicant must be prepared to submit print-ready artwork.  Print-ready artwork must be in PDF format, preferably in vector format using Adobe Illustrator. If you wish to submit a Photoshop file, it MUST be in high resolution, at least 300 dpi that is respectively 12” x 12”.  Low resolution and JPEG files will not be accepted for semi-finalists. 

Intellectual Property
Any submitted idea, documentation, photograph or design entered in this contest will remain the exclusive property of the Gateway Council of Hostelling International-USA and the submitting artist agrees that the Gateway Council of Hostelling International-USA and its designers shall have the perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable right to edit, publish and use these materials in any way and in any and all media now or hereafter known for trade, advertising, promotional and/or other purposes as the Gateway Council of Hostelling International USA may determine in its sole discretion and without further consideration to the submitting artist or winner.

The submitting artist agrees to assign all rights, title and interest in the submission, including copyright, to the Gateway Council of Hostelling International USA and waives his/her legal rights in the submission.

Accepting the prize constitutes permission for the Gateway Council of Hostelling International-USA to make public and otherwise use winner's name, voice, picture, likeness, opinions, biographical information, and submitted work without further compensation in any media now known or hereafter developed for promotional and/or publicity purposes, unless prohibited by law.

The submitting artist agrees to hold harmless and will indemnify the Gateway Council of Hostelling International USA for any liability, loss, costs, expenses or damages caused by the reason of any injury (whether to body, property, or personal or business character or reputation) sustained by or to any person or to property by reason of any act, neglect, default or omission of the submitting artist.  The submitting artist agrees to pay all sums, including attorneys’ fees, which must be paid or discharged in case of an action or any such damages or injuries.  This clause is not intended to indemnify against any cost or damage, or portion thereof, caused by the Gateway Council of Hostelling International-USA.
